What’s Making Me Happy 1.1
This is a segment/topic that I borrowed from one of my favorite podcasts, Pop Culture Happy Hour. The hosts record it at the end of every episode and I decided to adapt it for my own. I also want to take some time out of every week to practice gratitude and thankfulness. Overall, good vibes.
Here’s what’s making me happy this week:
- The Power of Point of View
In full transparency, I needed this book. Like really needed. Before purchasing The Power of Point of View, I had a general sense of POV, but… WOW. The book takes excerpts from well-known works and dissects them to help the reader understand on a basic level which POV is being used. It helps you understand character voice as well. Also—who knew how fun it could be messing with different POVs (I’m sure a lot of people, actually). POV can make an old story fresh and vice versa.
I was about to begin with “hands down the best podcast out there!” but then I realized that that is a hefty phrase that I shouldn’t throw around so flippantly (sorry Brandon Sanderson). Hands down the best WRITING podcast out there, Writing Excuses is back for it 13th season and I’m ready! Season 13 is the Year of the Character, so they’ll spend the whole year discussing characters and everything that makes one great. The episodes are only 20 minutes long and super digestible. Side note: Writing Excuses has a writing retreat cruise every year and registration/scholarships has just opened!
- Makeup by Jaack
Definitely not writing related, but I love this dude’s YouTube videos. Self-deprecating and relatable.
